Siemens Cuts the Charging Time for Electric Cars with a New Charging Point by 50% Siemens is launching a charging point Charge CP700A on the European market which can charge electric cars with a normal battery capacity within an hour. The charging power has been doubled to 22kW in the new series, which cuts the charging time in half.

Data Hub for IT Systems: Siemens Supports Salzburg AG's Smart Grid Pilot Project by Providing a Meter Data Management System Siemens Energy is supplying the Austrian power provider Salzburg AG with its Energy IP meter data management system for their "Smart Grid Model Region" pilot project. This project has been launched to test intelligent electricity meters under real-life conditions. The meter data management system will serve as a data hub for other IT systems to enable the meter data to be efficiently used for the utility's business processes.

Siemens Receives its Largest-Ever Onshore Wind Order from the US Siemens has received its largest onshore wind order to date. The purchaser is the US utility MidAmerican Energy headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa. Siemens will deliver a total of 258 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 2.3MW for several wind farms in Iowa. After commissioning in January 2012, the combined capacity of 593MW will be sufficient to supply 190,000 US households with clean electricity.

Siemens to Supply Converter Stations for HVDC Connection Between Estonia and Finland – Transmission Capacity Between the Two Countries to Increase Threefold Siemens Energy is building converter stations in Püssi, Estonia, and Anttila, Finland, for the new high-voltage DC (HVDC) connection between the two countries ("EstLink 2"). The system, with a transmission capacity of 650MW at a DC voltage of ± 450kv, will increase the capacity for transmission between the Baltic and Nordic countries from 350MW to 1000MW. It will also make the power supply more reliable.

Siemens to Erect Shoreside Power Supply System for Offshore Platform in the Barents Sea – 50% Reduction of CO2 Emissions The Goliat floating offshore platform for the production, storage and offloading of oil and gas north of Norway in the Barents Sea will not, as is customary practice, be supplied with power generated by onboard gas turbines and generators but from the shore via a 106km-long subsea cable. This will result in a 50% reduction of CO2 emissions.

Siemens to Open up Smart Metering Communications for Meters Produced by Other Manufacturers In January 2011 Siemens Energy will open up its previously proprietary Distribution Line Carrier (DLC) communications protocol, which utilises the low-voltage network as a metering communications channel. The company will thus also give utilities the opportunity to deploy meters produced by other manufacturers within its automated metering and information system AMIS. The purchaser is DB Energie GmbH based in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Siemens to Build Combined Cycle Power Plant in the Netherlands Siemens Energy has received an order from the Netherlands for turnkey construction of a combined cycle power plant. Purchaser of the 435MW plant Diemen 34 in the vicinity of Amsterdam is the Dutch utility Nuon, a subsidiary of Vattenfall A.B. Siemens will also handle plant maintenance. With an efficiency level as high as approximately 59%, maximised operating flexibility and low nitrogen oxide emissions the gas-fired plant will supply more than 750,000 Dutch households with ecofriendly power.

Siemens HVDC Technology to Transmit Eco-Friendly Electric Power from Georgia to Turkey Siemens Energy is to install two turnkey high voltage direct current (HVDC) back-to-back links in Georgia to connect the Georgian power supply network with the grid system in Turkey. As part of the Black Sea Transmission Network Project, one of the most significant infrastructure projects in Georgia, the two HVDC back-to-back links are each to transmit 350MW of controlled electric power generated in various hydropower plants in Georgia to Turkey.

Siemens Transformer Works in India Delivers its First HVDC Transformer In late July, 2010, the first HVDC transformer left the Siemens transformer works in Kalwa, around 30km to the east of Mumbai on the west coast of India. The converter transformer with a rating of 500MVA and an operating voltage of 500kV is the first of a total of eleven transformers that Siemens is building in its Indian works for the high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system of Adani Power Limited.

Siemens Energy Receives First Photovoltaic Order from Czech Republic Siemens Energy has received its first order from the Czech Republic for the turnkey construction of a large ground-based photovoltaic plant. The customer is the construction company D.P.E.S. s.r.o. based in Prague. The plant, with a rating of 4MWp, will be erected in Dobré Pole, Czech Republic. After completion, scheduled for end of 2010, the solar power plant will provide nearly 1,000 households in the Czech Republic with environmentally friendly power.

Siemens Receives Order from Italy for Photovoltaic Plant Siemens Energy has received an order from Italy for a photovoltaic plant with a peak output of 15MW. The customer is Ital Green Energy, a subsidiary of the Marseglia Group. The San Donaci solar power plant located in the Apulia region is to be connected to the Italian grid by late 2010 and will then supply clean electricity to around 5,500 Italian households.

Shell Selects Siemens as its Single Main Power Distribution Contractor Shell has signed a five-year global framework agreement with Siemens AG for the provision of integrated power distribution systems used in Shell's projects all over the world. Based on this agreement Siemens Energy will provide Shell with power distribution technology used in Shell's refinery, gas and chemical as well as exploration projects as the sole main power distribution contractor. Shell's annual capital expenditure for power distribution ranges between $300 million and $400 million.

Siemens Receives Order from Transpower to Connect Offshore Wind Farms via HVDC Link Order Worth More Than €500 Million for the Consortium A consortium of Siemens Energy and Prysmian Powerlink has received an order worth more than €500 million from the German transmission grid company Transpower. The BorWin2 offshore consortium will connect two North Sea offshore wind farms to the grid on behalf of Transpower, a subsidiary of the Dutch grid operator TenneT.

Siemens Receives Order for Advanced Gas Turbine for Expansion Project in Texas Siemens Energy has been awarded a contract for the supply of a SGT6-5000F gas turbine for Xcel Energy's Jones Station expansion project, located near Lubbock, Texas. Xcel Energy is a major US utility that provides eight Western and Midwestern states with energy-related products and services. The 486MW rated Jones Station is a natural gas-fueled, steam-electric generating station with two 1970s-vintage operating units.

Siemens Wins Order for Expansion of Abu Dhabi's Power Grid Siemens Energy has received an order from the Abu Dhabi Transmission & Dispatch Company (Transco), Abu Dhabi's national electricity grid operator, as part of the project to expand the country's power distribution network. Siemens and its partner Electromechanical LLC will supply five turnkey transformer substations including switchgear for the project. Siemens' share of the order is worth a total of approximately EUR150 million.
