E.ON's Datteln hard coal-fired power station, located in western Germany near Dortmund, went into operation between 1964 and 1969. The three units with a total output of 303MW supply up to% of the entire single phase 16.7Hz electricity required by the German railway operator Deutsche Bahn AG to run its trains. In 2011, Datteln unit 1-3 will be replaced by a new, highly efficient hard coal-fired power plant, Datteln 4.
