Rickmers-Linie - Global Sea Transportation of Breakbulk, Heavylifts and Project Cargoes

Rickmers-Linie is one of the world's leading specialists in the global sea transportation of breakbulk, heavylifts and project cargoes. The company provides a world-wide network of liner services for the transportation for transformers, generators, railway locomotives, pressure vessels and yachts. Rickmers currently owns or long-term charters 13 specialist vessels and spot charters others.

Rickmers-Linie belongs to Rickmers Group, which incorporates business activities in ship management, liner shipping, maritime services, investments and real estate. The group is based in Hamburg, Germany, and has more than 20 offices and a widespread agency network all over the world. Rickmers Group employs more than 3,200 crew on board, more than 450 employees ashore worldwide and manages a fleet of more than 100 vessels.

Round-the-world Pearl String Service

The German liner company offers an innovative round-the-world Pearl String Service with an unique concept offering fortnightly sailings, fast transit times and reliable schedules. The base ports served every 14 days by the service are Hamburg, Antwerp, Genoa, Singapore, Bangkok, Jakarta, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Dalian, Xingang, Qingdao, Masan, Kobe, Yokohama, New Orleans, Houston, Philadelphia, and back to Hamburg. Many other ports are offered as well.

The Pearl String Service is served by nine identical 30,000dwt purpose-built superflex heavy multi-purpose vessels. These are equipped with four large cranes, the two biggest of which can be twinned for a lifting capacity of up to 640t.

Middle East and Indian subcontinent liner service

A regular liner service is also offered from Europe to the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent. The voyages to ME/India are currently being performed by charter vessels, until the company takes delivery of newbuildings earmarked for this service.

Transpacific freight service

Rickmers-Linie is further operating a transpacific service, offering westbound departures from the US East Coast to Northern China, Korea and Japan. Regular loading ports within this westbound service are Philadelphia and Houston, with discharge ports Busan, Xingang, Qingdao, Shanghai and Yokohama.

The world's first 3D Cargo Management System for Project Cargo

Rickmers-Linie constantly strives to improve service quality and to increase overall efficiency. This inspired the company to develop a software solution that has completely revolutionised stowage planning and cargo management: RICOSYS (the Rickmers Cargo Operations Simulation System), a state-of-the-art cargo management system. Cargo items are digitalised in 3D to a realistic CAD model for the simulation of cargo lifting, handling and bedding on our vessels – for the benefit of an optimised cargo flow with reduced risk of damage to the cargo.

Breakbulk, heavylift and project cargo

In 2008, Rickmers-Linie started to invest in terminal facilities specialised in the handling of breakbulk, heavylift and project cargo. The company currently holds shares in DP World Breakbulk NV in Antwerp (20%) and in Wallmann & Co. in Hamburg (25,1%). The strategy is to safeguard know-how and access to handling facilities for breakbulk and project cargo and to offer value added services such as packing, storage and other related services.

ISO Certification

Rickmers-Linie is certified in accordance with the latest ISO standards ISO 9001:2008, OHSAS 18001:2007 and ISO 14001:2004.
