  • Recognising the value in waste: there is growing recognition that there is value not only in recycled commodities but also recycled products

  • Energy: security of energy supply is a key concern, together with key targets for switching from fossil fuels to renewable sources is causing significant focus on waste as a source of energy
  • Economics: both financial incentives and sanctions exist to stimulate recycling and diversion from landfill and growth in renewable energy
