ATI Stellram - High-Performance Metal Cutting Tools
High-Performance Metal Cutting Tools
ATI Stellram develops and produces high-performance metal cutting tools for difficult-to-machine materials used in a wide variety of industries such as power generation and oil and gas exploration. It has manufacturing facilities in the UK, Switzerland and the US.
ATI Stellram is a business unit of ATI Engineered Products and part of the ATI oil and gas team, a group of global businesses that produces a wide range of speciality metals and cutting tool solutions. All products are made to the exact performance specifications and certification standards of organisations including the Norwegian quality mark NORSOK, National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE), American Petroleum Institute (API), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the American Standards for Testing Materials (ASTM).
Cutting tools for challenging environments
ATI Stellram is proud of its long-established relationships with all major manufacturers who require metal cutting tool solutions for applications used in both sub-sea and well head environments. ATI Stellram prides itself on offering quality products that are not only specifically engineered to ensure maximum performance, but are designed to give customers a competitive advantage in the marketplace.
The extensive Stellram® programme comprises inserts and toolholders suitable for drilling, milling, threading and turning. In addition ATI Stellram produces new grades and specialist combinations of substrates and coatings.
Renowned for solving difficult-to-machine challenges, ATI Stellram has an enviable reputation for developing innovative solutions that achieve better productivity, lower costs and higher quality, particularly for the new generation of materials such as nickel-, cobalt- and titanium-based alloys.
From material order to finished part, these are some of the products designed for applications in the oil and gas sector.
ATI Stellram's turning programme includes the versatile 4E geometry, available in heavy-duty grades SP0819 and NL40, for machining materials with a high nickel content. For indexable milling purposes the 7792 VX milling cutter can operate at high feed rates, delivering improved stability and less spindle wear. It can be used with a range of grades for machining hardened and stainless steels as well as titanium.
ATI Stellram's threading programme offers all API thread forms, Acme and Stub Acme on laydown style indexable inserts, as well as a selection of solid carbide thread mills offering UN and dedicated line pipe. ATI Stellram's Rapide® solid carbide tooling programme reduces cycle times and improves metal removal rates by up to 50% while extending tool life by as much as 75%.
Machining high-performance materials used in the power industry
ATI Stellram also produces a range of tools for machining components such as turbine and compressor blades as well as heat exchanger plates. ATI Stellram's milling cutters, geometries and grades are designed for use with difficult-to-machine materials including stainless steels and high temperature alloys.
Contour milling cutters such as the 7700VR0 and 7710VR10 are suitable for semi-finish profiling thanks to their smooth, positive cutting action and provide longer tool life through their wear-resistant grades. ATI Stellram's 7745VODO4, an eight-sided octagonal indexable insert milling cutter, is a versatile tool for a variety of operations covering face, ramp and pocket milling to chamfering, while the 7690VA12 achieves high metal removal rates and a superior surface finish for accurate shoulder, slot and pocket milling applications.
The range is complemented by ATI Stellram's X-Grade™ Technology insert programme, which offers high-performance X grades including the new X700, a heavy-duty TiAIN PVD coating and high-quality micrograin substrate combination. All Stellram grades feature wear and heat resistant properties suitable for high cutting speed operations.
Drilling applications can also benefit from ATI Stellram's HardCore® technology, a new drilling tool design that combines two optimum grades of carbide in one tool, removing the problems normally associated with reduced cutting speeds at the hole centre. HardCore not only extends tool life and improves control of cutting conditions, but also eliminates chipping.
