ADD Semiconductor - Silicon Solutions for the Smart Grid

ADD semiconductor is a leading semiconductor company, founded in 2001 and focused on the development of System-on-Chip (SoC) devices with communication capabilities for large volume markets.

Future road map

Our mission is to turn the existing low voltage electric grid into a reliable transmission medium and make it easy to use.

Smart grid and smart metering

The main focus of ADD is to develop SoCs for the automatic meter management / automatic meter infrastructure (AMM/AMI) market and smart grid applications. The concept of the smart grid is to build a wide communication network between everything which is connected onto it. ADD semiconductor is also developing solutions for smart lighting, home and building automation, and solar energy to allow the grid to become smarter.

The unique fully digital implementation of our designs gives us the best quality and performance and the best reliability and robustness. Digital filtering provides extreme selectivity accuracy, close to the frequency carrier, and high sensibility even in the worst conditions you might find in some parts of the world. Embedded intelligence in nodes allow multi path, multi medium and bidirectional transmission. Furthermore, ADD designs are based on standard, open and cost free protocols.

ADD works closely with customers and electricity utilities to develop open and multi provider AMM/AMI systems worldwide.

PLC power line communication

The power line communication (PLC) technology of ADD is helping to define the new communication standards for PLC systems in Europe, Asia, and the US.

ADD is at the origin of the power line intelligent metering evolution (PRIME) alliance, where ADD worked closely with Iberdrola, a major Spanish Utility, to define the OFDM specification used in PRIME.

ADD is located in Zaragoza, Spain, and have offices in Beijing, Shenzhen, China, Pune, India and Orlando, US. ADD employs 43 people, most of them with PhD and Master degrees, focused on making ADD semiconductor the world leader in its domain.
