Total S.A (Total) is expected to initiate the pre-qualification round in the coming week for the installation of over 70 kilometers of offshore pipelines in the South Mahakam project off Kalimantan, Indonesia. Global Industries, Ltd, Saipem S.p.A, P.T. NISCONI and Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. are among those looking for the tender. The company has issued pre-qualification documents covering 1,200 tones of structural steel for the platform topsides and 1800 tones in total for the jackets earlier in June 2009.
Industry sources are expecting Total to open a separate tender for the engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning of the offshore platforms later in 2009.
The South Mahakam project entails the development of the Stupa, West Stupa and East Mandu discoveries. The project is aimed for start-up in 2011 or 2012. It is expected to pump 14,700 barrels per day of liquids and 114 million cubic feet per day of gas.
