Origin Energy consortium wins geothermal project in Indonesia

EBR Staff Writer Published 03 September 2010

Australian electricity retailer Origin Energy, in consortium with India-based Tata Power and PT Supraco Indonesia, has been awarded the Sorik Marapi geothermal exploration concession in northern Sumatra following a competitive bidding process.

The Sorik Marapi concession is expected to support the development of a geothermal power project with a generation capacity of approximately 240MW.

PT Sorik Marapi Geothermal Power, a special purpose vehicle formed by the consortium, will develop the project.

Origin Energy and Tata Power will each hold a 47.5% interest in the concession, while PT Supraco Indonesia will hold the remaining interest.

The Sorik Marapi resource will be tested as part of an exploration program over the next 18 months.
