Nuon reportedly plotting further expansion in Germany
Dutch energy group Nuon is apparently planning to expand its German electricity supply business beyond its existing base in Berlin, according to local media reports.
The Handelsblatt newspaper reports that the Dutch group is looking to target what it calls 'private clients' in other large German cities, thereby building upon its current foothold in the capital. Nuon launched its campaign to acquire customers in Berlin in January 2006, although it is not saying exactly how successful this foray is proving as yet. Handelsblatt also reports that Nuon may be considering building further generating capacity in Germany on top of its existing site at Heinsberg in the west of the country. It is possible that Nuon will build either gas or coal fired plants and then attract customers with a 'nuclear free' message.
