EBR Staff Writer Published 27 January 2012

National Solar Power has signed a solar farm development agreement with Liberty County to establish a 100MW solar farm in the US state of Florida.

The $350m project to be built in Liberty County, will be the company's third in Florida with the others being in Gadsden and Hardee counties.

The company has planned to build up to five 200-acre, 20MW farm segments over a period of five years at a cost of $70m each.

Hensel Phelps Construction Co will be design, build and operate the project for National Solar Power.

The first phase of the project is expected to be up and running within six to seven months of breaking ground, once the project secures local and state permits.

National Solar Power has signed a deal with Progress Energy Florida and is having discussions with other potential customers to buy electricity generated by its Florida solar farm projects.

The company is also negotiating with multiple large financial institutions and private equity investors to provide project financing.
