Haryana Plans To Invest INR17.94 Billion To Expand Its Power Distribution System

EBR Staff Writer Published 08 June 2009

The Haryana government intends to expand its power distribution system in the state by investing approximately INR17.94 billion during the financial year 2009. The government would focus mainly on high voltage distribution in urban localities and villages, for which the government has allocated around INR5.9 billion, stated Randeep Singh Surjewala, the Power minister. For people living below poverty line, connections will be released under the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojna.

During the first phase, the government plans to implement a pre-paid metering system in the urban areas. This would also include approximately 83 new 33 kilowatt (kV) substations, increasing the capacity of 35 existing substations and erecting associated lines of 33 kV level.

Under the metering project, both the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam intend to invest approximately INR1 billion.

A investment plan of INR1.47billion has been approved by the Centre under Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme-II to enhance power distribution system in 36 towns of Haryana.
