EBR Staff Writer Published 17 June 2009

France-based GDF SUEZ, an energy provider, signed agreement with Marubeni Corporation to operate Shuweihat 2 project. Marubeni is going to acquire 20% of Shuweihat 2, a greenfield, natural gas-fired installation located in Abu Dhabi. The plant is expected to generate 1,500 megawatts (MW) of electricity.

GDF SUEZ, who developed the project, owns 20% of Shuweihat 2 project. Marubeni owns 20% and the remaining 60% of the project is owned by Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA). A company, which is jointly formed by GDF SUEZ and Marubeni, would operate the plant.

During January 2009, the company and ADWEA received a USD Interim Bridge Loan of approximately 900 million.

The Shuweihat 2 project would also deliver 454,610m3/day of water.
