CNPC Starts Operating Kenkiyak-Kumkol Section Of Kazakhstan-China Oil Pipeline
China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) has placed the Kenkiyak-Kumkol section of the Kazakhstan-China oil pipeline into operation on July 11, 2009. Construction of the section commenced on December 11, 2007 and consisted of two phases. The first phase saw completion of the pipeline starting from Kenkiyak to Kumkol in Kazakhstan, with a total length of 792 kilometers and initial transportation capacity of 10 million tons per year.
Originally planned to become operational on October 1, 2009, the first phase was completed three months in advance. In the second phase, stations along the whole pipeline will be renovated and expanded, so as to boost the transportation capacity to 20 million tons per year.
The Kenkiyak-Atyrau section and the Atasu-Alashankou section of the Kazakhstan-China oil pipeline were put into operation on March 28, 2003 and December 15, 2005 respectively.
