Calpine Closes Its 811 MW Delta Gas-Fired Power Plant In California

Calpine Corporation (Calpine), a marketer of energy commodities in North America, has decided to closed down its 811 megawatts (MW) Delta natural gas-fired power plant located in California by May 22, 2009 for planned reasons the California Independent System Operator stated in a report. The Delta natural gas-fired power station, which commenced service in the year 2002, is situated in Pittsburg, in Contra Costa County, roughly 40 miles east of San Francisco.

The power facility is a combined-cycle plant that contains three combustion turbines, one 183 MW unit and two 182 MW units and one steam turbine with 263 MW capacity.

Established in 1984, Calpine located in Houston, Texas and San Jose, California, is capable of delivering over 24,000 MW of clean, economical, reliable and fuel-efficient electricity to customers and communities in 16 states across the US and Canada. The company owns, leases and operates low-carbon, natural gas-fired and renewable geothermal power stations.
