Bay Area Beverage Announces Completion Of 500 kW Solar Power System

EBR Staff Writer Published 07 May 2009

Bay Area Beverage Company (Bay Area Beverage), a distributor of beverages in Alameda and Contra Costa counties, has completed a 500 kilowatt (kW) solar power system. The company will produce 100% of its electricity needs with solar power. The system consists of over 2,756 modules installed atop the company's facilities. The system produces power to supply 85 homes. The solar system has been designed by Sunlight Electric, LLC.

The solar system has received financing entirely through loans and incentives, including around $2.9 million in tax credits and state subsidies more than the next six years.

Sunlight Electric's Chief Executive Officer Rob Erlichman expects that the system will save Bay Area Beverage $171,000 in electricity costs per annum. The solar system will decrease Bay Area Beverage’s carbon footprint by over 905,924 pounds of CO2 per annum, similar to the carbon captured annually by around 123 acres of forest.

For us, going solar isn't just about 'doing the right thing' — it's good business as well, said Bay Area Beverage President TJ Louderback. With the federal and state incentives, our solar project became a very reasonable proposition and will provide significant savings and improved cash flow immediately. These savings will help us continue to provide our customers with superior service as well as quality jobs with great benefits for our employees.
