Allegheny Energy Starts Construction Of Its New Transmission Operations Headquarters In Fairmont, West Virginia

EBR Staff Writer Published 16 April 2009

Allegheny Energy, Inc. (Allegheny Energy) has started construction at its new transmission operations headquarters in Fairmont, West Virginia. The new headquarters will serve as the center for the company’s multi-state transmission functions. It will create around 150 new jobs to Fairmont. Omni Associates has launched the design of the new building. March-Westin, Inc. will serve as the general contractor for the new environmentally-friendly building.

Site preparation work for the facility is in progress. Completion of the facility is expected to be in mid-2011. The building will total around 148,000 square feet. It will contain a transmission operations control center, data center and about 85,000 square feet of Class A office space. As a demonstration of the company’s environmental commitment, the new headquarters will be certified under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building Rating System.

“This building is an important milestone in the development of our transmission business,” said Paul J. Evanson, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Allegheny Energy. “With our new projects, TrAIL and PATH, along with more than 4,600 miles of transmission lines already in place, we need a facility that is specifically designed to meet the needs of our transmission business.”
