ABB secures $250m substation order in Saudi Arabia

ABB has secured an order worth more than $250m from the Saudi Electricity Company to build new substations and reinforce existing ones in Saudi Arabia.

One of the new gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) substations will be located south-west of Al-Hassa in the eastern region, while six other new substations and the three to be upgraded will be located in the capital Riyadh and other cities in the central region.

ABB will be responsible for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of the substations including the delivery of key equipment such as GIS, transformers, shunt reactors and capacitor banks.

The company will also deliver a range of solutions including SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) as well as automation, control, protection and communication equipment.
