CNNC To Begin Construction Of Hainan Nuclear Power Plant By 2009

China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) is looking to commence construction of Hainan nuclear power plant by the end of 2009, China Daily reported. The Hainan which project is situated in the Changjiang county is designed to have two 650 MW reactors. The power plant will use second-generation nuclear technology. CNNC also expects to commence construction of the second phase of Tianwan nuclear power project by 2010.

Alcantara owned CONAL Holdings would continue the building of coal-fired power plant in Maasim, Sarangani. The cost of constructing the plant is $450m, reported Manila Standard Today.

Gazprom Begins Drilling At Kirinskoye Field In Russia

OAO Gazprom (Gazprom) has started exploration drilling in the Kirinskoye field offshore the Sakhalin Peninsula. The start of geological exploration in the Kirinskoye field will create a new gas production area offshore Sakhalin as part of the state Eastern gas program. Starting from 2014, the Kirinskoye field will turn into a gas source for the Sakhalin - Khabarovsk - Vladivostok gas transmission system being constructed.

Sandvik Materials Signs SEK2 Billion Contract With AREVA For Steam Generator Tubes

Sandvik Materials Technology (Sandvik Materials), a subsidiary of Sandvik AB, has signed a contract with AREVA NP SAS for steam generator tubes for the nuclear power industry. The contract is valued at more than SEK2 billion, and deliveries will begin in the end of 2013. The steam generator tubes will be used in nuclear power plants all over the world.

Petrofac Bags Over $350 Million Gas Compression Contract In Oman

Petrofac Limited (Petrofac), an oil and gas facilities service provider, has won a contract worth over $350 million for Kauther gas-field depletion-compression project. The contract was awarded on behalf of the Government of Oman by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO). Petrofac will carry out the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the gas compression system and associated facilities at Kauther gas plant, besides undertaking the commissioning and six months of initial operations.

Taipower Plans To Invest $244 Million To Build 50 Wind Turbines By 2015

Taiwan Power Company, Ltd. (Taipower) is planning to invest TWD8 billion ($244 million) to construct 50 wind turbines by 2015, according to Taiwan News. This will help to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions. The company said that currently 106 wind turbines already in operation and 56 under construction. With a generating capacity of more than 37,370 megawatt, TaiPower serves nearly 11.7 million industrial, commercial, and residential customers.

Jordan Closes Bidding Round For Oil Exploration Blocks

Jordan’s Natural Resources Authority (NRA) said the closing date for submission of bids for oil exploration blocks by international and regional companies in the northern and central regions of the Kingdom ends on July 2, 2009, The Jordan Times reported. May 31, 2009 was initially planned as the cut-off date for the tenders. Later, it was extended to July 2, 2009 because of requests from some international firms which have shown interest in bidding for the blocks.

Iraq To Announce Second Bidding Round Shortly

Iraq is planning to announce a second bidding round for energy contracts, Reuters reported. The country may allow foreign companies to bid for oilfields that were not awarded during the bidding round held in Baghdad on June 30, 2009. The second bidding round was expected to commence by 2009 year-end, but it is being announced earlier.

Green Rock And UWA Receive Geothermal Exploration Permit In Perth

Green Rock Energy Limited (Green Rock) and the University of Western Australia (UWA) have received geothermal exploration permit in the Perth Metropolitan area, including the UWA’s Crawley Campus. The UWA geothermal energy project is designed to replace a portion of the UWA’s Crawley Campus’ electricity powered compression chillers with geothermal powered absorption chillers.
